With writer director Matthew Vaughn departing the sequel, will Kick Ass 2 suffer? Vaughn brought a wonderful, moving sensibility to the first Kick Ass – turning the film into a mindfrak meditation on superhero violence.
This sequel sees Dave “Kick-Ass” Lizewski (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) and Mindy “Hit-Girl” Macready (Chloe Moretz) trying to move on with life. Meanwhile, Chris D’Amico (Christopher Mintz-Plasse) steps into his daddy’s footsteps and begins a criminal empire, with the explicit goal of taking revenge on Hit-Girl and Kick-Ass, who in turn recruit a squad of superheroes to help defend the city.
